VOTER SUPPRESSION
IS A HATE CRIME
DESIGNED TO STIFLE US
Voter suppression is alive and well, and it targets Black and Brown voters the most. Polling places in communities of color have closed at a disproportionate rate. And where there are polling locations, the lines to vote and the time waiting to vote is longer for Black and Brown voters. Intimidating and discriminatory voter ID and proof-of-citizenship restrictions target non-whites, not to mention campaigns of blatant misinformation.
MADE WORSE
IN THESE TIMES
The pandemic we are in compounds voter suppression as it poses an even greater barrier to voters and poll workers. Physical distancing makes lines even longer and fears of COVID-19 keep Black and Brown voters, often already essential workers, from leaving their house again. Thousands of poll workers refused to work out of coronavirus fears during the April elections, creating bigger delays and discouraging even more from voting.
